About us

Northampton Volunteering Centre is an independent, registered charitable company, established in 1990.   We believe that Community action and volunteering breaks down barriers and contributes to social inclusion, a sense of belonging and a better way of life.  We believe that an independent voluntary and community sector is vital to the creation of a just and equitable society and we are working to ensure that its value and potential is acknowledged.

Our Aims are:

• To provide highly effective infrastructure support and services for voluntary sector organizations in Northampton and surrounds, to enable them to make a full contribution to society.
• To help build the capacity of people in local communities, to empower them and contribute to the sustainability of their communities
• To promote and develop community action and enable individuals and communities to benefit from volunteering.
• To provide support for individuals through the involvement of volunteers.

We do this in three  main ways:

• by providing different kinds of help, information and resources to people involved in voluntary organisations and community groups to enable them  to meet their goals and operate more effectively
• by promoting and developing volunteering and assisting people, regardless of their background,  to become engaged in volunteering, for their own benefit and that of others
• by operating direct services, delivered by volunteers, which help vulnerable people and support community action.

Northampton Volunteering Centre (NVC) is a membership organisation led by a diverse Board of Trustees, nine in number who are elected by and from the membership.

The organisation occupies newly built and fully accessible premises in the town centre, the £750,000 funding for which, was raised entirely through grants.  From this centre, we offer support and resources  to hundreds of local people every year.

The revenue costs of the organisation are secured through contracts and grants with local statutory bodies, central government funding streams and donations from grant making bodies and individuals.  Donations however small, enable NVC to continue its work to support people and communities in Northampton.
